N.A.M.E. SCHOOLS’ VIDEO COMPETITION 2010
This is your chance to enter the best of your students’ work to be judged against their peers around
the country!
COMPETITION RULES:
Please read carefully. There are changes from previous years. New rules have are in bold.
1. Entries must be produced between November 2009 and October 2010. Entries must be the work of full-time
students, up to the age of 19 on the closing date, who are attending primary, intermediate, secondary or area schools.
The entire production must be done by the students. Adult assistance must be limited to advice, not actual production
process, and must be described in a statement attached to the entry, signed by the adult coordinator. Each entry
must be accompanied with an official entry form.
2. You must have the right to any music in the production. Any use of music must be acknowledged by filling
in the Music Permission Form below.
3. A script or storyboard AND production log or other planning must be included to authenticate the entries.
4. Entries must be on VHS recorded in Standard Play, with each entry located at the start of a separate, named tape
OR on a DVD disk, with each entry marked at a new chapter OR on a separate, named DVD. Entries must also be
labelled with the name of the school. NOTE: You must not combine entries in different categories on the same
DVD disk.
5. There will be no age graded sections but the judges will take the age of students into account in the judging
process.
6. There are THREE Categories in the competition. A school may enter any or all of these categories.
Category 1: Short film (3 - 8 minutes)
Category 2: Documentary (4 - 8 minutes)
Category 3: Short texts - film trailers / advertisements / music videos (1 - 4 minutes)
In each category, longer or shorter productions will not be accepted.
7. Entries will be assessed using the following criteria: narrative flow and cohesion, technical control and polish in
camerawork, sound and editing and overall impact on the audience.
8.Each entry must be accompanied by an official entry form (these may be photocopied) and an entry fee of $20(or
$30 for more than one entry from the school), cheques payable to N.A.M.E. This will assist with return postage,
competition running costs and a dvd of the finalists for each school. Entries received without the correct fee will not
be returned. The entry fee is not refundable if entrants do not meet all the criteria.
9.There is a maximum number of 3 entries per category per school.
10.The closing date for entries is Friday October 15th 2010. This is the first Friday of Term 4. Entries must be
received by 4pm on that day at the address on the official entry form. Note that judging will take place on the following
day, Saturday October 16th therefore there is no leeway for late entries.
While every care will be taken, N.A.M.E. cannot be held responsible for entries damaged or lost either in transit or
while in its possession. Schools are strongly advised to make a copy of their production before sending it to N.A.M.E.

All entries will receive written feedback and certificates from the judging panel. Each school will receive a copy of the
finalists show reel. Winners will be notified by fax, email or phone. Organisers reserve the right to include selected
entries on a show reel for promotional purposes. Signing of the entry form indicates acceptance. The filmmaker(s)
understand that N.A.M.E will be distributing the finalists’ films on DVD to its members and to schools entered
in the competition for educational use.
 
 
N.A.M.E. SCHOOLS' VIDEO COMPETITION
Music Permission Form
If you have used music in your video it must be acknowledged. There are two ways you can have
music in your video. You must fill out this form for each applicable options:
Option A:
Owner’s Permission for use of Non-Licensed Music
Note: If the owner of the music was contacted via the web and is overseas, you may supply an
e-mail from the owner giving permission for use of the music.
